Consideration for others

I find myself increasingly frustrated by the lack of consideration that people have for others.

For example, I can tell you of countless times I have been waiting at a train platform in Sydney. I've been the first or second person waiting near the edge of the platform where the doors would open.

Meanwhile, someone else will come along and stand right next to me. When the train arrives, they will sneak forward and go through the doors first. They'll get their preferred seat. Sometimes, they also won't even wait for the people on the train to get out. They won't give them the space.

This sort of thing doesn't happen in other countries around the world, like Japan. In Japan, there are marked lines on the platform floor where people should wait. People from an orderly queue. No one pushes in. They wait for those on the train to exit first before they board.

People should show consideration for others. If people are leaving the train, step to the side and let them off first. If someone else was waiting on the platform before you, let them on first. We will be a stronger society for it.
